A bit about me
Being able to breath fresh air, swim in a non-polluted sea or ride my bike down a clean street may not be valued by everyone but to me they are a basic human right. I’m lucky enough to enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking and windsurfing to name a few, which not only test me mentally and physically but have also taught me to respect my environment, the weather and other people. Through these experiences, I have realised not only nature’s power but also its vulnerability. If there is a way I can help improve or influence others in their attitudes and actions in sustaining a better environment for us all then I will. So when a good friend told me about the World Naked Bike Ride, which is a demonstration to protest against oil dependency, car culture and to promote commuter cycling, I thought, well if it takes something as extreme as cycling around London with no clothes on to make people 'address' these issues then needs must!!
My thoughts on the weekend
Wow what a great weekend... what an inspiration! I am still buzzing with my head filled with ideas and my body full of energy! The setting was stunning, the weather beautiful, the food delicious. From start to finish the speakers, the participants and of course the Howies team oozed enthusiasm and drive. I met some amazing people who were not only rich in knowledge and stories but also made me laugh all weekend! I learnt heaps about so many things. One message that I felt ran throughout all the talks and just one that I will take away with me was to not stop having ideas. Try them out and if they fail.. so what! Use what you’ve learnt and then go play with some more! I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone and seeing their amazing ideas develop.
