What was talked about
It's possible to build a site cost effectively and yet reach a world wide audience,. The question is how? The lecture Matthew gave covered the basics of how to design a site and ensure that it is seen.
The top tips
- Ask silly questions - the web is full of bullshit but is actually quite simple
- Steal stuff (open source/free image banks?)
- The web is a time-based media so think about keeping stuff up to date
- The web is interactive - you're in a dialogue so listen and act quickly
- If people can add comments to your site they may say stuff you don't appreciate - moderate your feedback
- Reciprocated links (from other sites to yours and vise-versa) are good. Who do you know?
- A distinctive URL - emotional or rational brand?
- The message is the message - don't rely on things like Flash
- Test it - you're likely to be too close to see obvious errors
- Keep it simple!
