About the speaker
Tony graduated from Manchester Polytechnic with a 1st class BA Hons in Design and Communication Media in 1985. Tony joined BMP in July of 1985 as a junior art director. The following year he teamed up with Kim Papworth. Whilst there, they worked on many brands including, Courage, Cadbury beverages, Scottish Amicable and Heinz.
They won their first award for a press ad for Derbyshire County Council. They went on to win all sorts of gongs for War on Want and Crookes Healthcare. The DDB merger gave them an opportunity to work on VW. More gongs followed.
Kim and Tony reunited in 1995 and built a new home at Leagas Delaney, where they helped breathe new life into brands such as Adidas, Hyundai, the Guardian and The BBC. In 1997, they moved to BBH where they created magic with Levi's (Flat Eric), Audi and Lynx.
In Sept 2000 they set about building the then flagging ship of Wieden & Kennedy London. More gongs followed for Frisk, Loot, Nike, and Aiwa. Perhaps their most famous work to date has been the Honda campaign which has won plaudits across the globe, culminating in the recent Cannes Grand Prix win for it's 'Grrr' commercial.
